This morning as I was driving to the W1sd0m office, I decided to take a different route, which landed me in the middle of a Boulder neighborhood. As I was figuring out how to get through I came upon some reindeer that had wandered down from the mountains to check out the city! They were pretty friendly so I decided to shoot some video. Out here you can come across nature at any moment.

Heres to random events!

This past Monday was President’s Day and I decided to take a hike in the Mountains. I parked over by Flagstaff Road and then started out on the hike not realizing that my camel back was frozen solid! I ended up waiting half the hike before it thawed out enough to get the water out. I had my favorite jacket on and a good supply of power bars so it wasn’t a big deal. The first part of the hike was a good burn! It was almost straight up without a rest. We stopped to rest at the top of the mountain and had a snack! Then as we continued on to the next trail we met up a Boulder local named Brian along with his golden retriever. At the next cut off we took the path down the mountain and wound up on Gregory Canyon Trail, which was a nice skid down a weaving path to the bottom. We were able to see the other mountain trail that we came in on and it was a great time! The perfect length to wear one out without over doing it. Nothing like some good cardio. Of course it was no sweat for Buck who remained ahead by at least 30 feet at all times. lol

Of course we had to take a shot of us at the top!

Last Saturday I woke up around 6 am drove down to Boulder to hike Sanitas. I arrived around 6:45 and made it to the top around 7:30 am. As I was climbing the sun was rising. When I arrived at the top I could see out 10+ miles over the clouds and the sun floated just above them. I met some other hikers at the top, and we chatted for awhile about Boulder before descending. Sanitas is mostly tabletops and staircases, requiring high stepping the whole way up! Close to the top you really start to feel the burn, because of the altitude, large rocks which you have to climb over and the steep grade. At the top it is very calm and quiet. Then on the way down it is less of an incline and makes for a good cool down! I am so glad I live in Boulder County and have the unique to experience the mountains up close in my backyard. I am the luckiest dude alive!

Just a little harder that Mallory caves! A little ice climbing cant hurt that bad right? I mean it is just frozen water.

Last Sunday Zach and I decided to take a hike with Buck up the Mesa Trail to Mallory Caves. We had a great time and Buck had a chance to get some exercise. Along the trail we kept hearing reports of the top being icy, but paid no attention. When we arrived there were already two ladies trying to climb up with a rope left behind. After chatting with them for awhile we convinced them that they could make it up and we all climbed up. At the top, we checked out the view and the cave! Then we all climbed back down together and hiked home. It was a bast!

This past weekend Greg and I again ventured out into Left Hand Canyon! This time we met up with two others. The most memorable was a veteran offroader name Averett. First we did the 276 bypass which was a blast, and we had no trouble navigating. Then, as we continued on to another trail, it became pretty icy again on the backside of the mountain. Averett only having 31′s was having some trouble making it up the trail. However, he balls to wall hit the slopes going as fast as he could and made it up everyone. He even made it past one area where I had to winch! I was very impressed. After a few hours of wheeling, it was time to head back. Greg and I left Averett with his buddy at the camp fire and headed down the mountain. About 3 quarters of the way to the bottom we ran into the ranger, who had stopped traffic on the one lane trail. As we walking down to investigate, we found an SUV that had manged to flip itself on one of the switchbacks. It was holding up traffic going both ways and we were asked to help flip it back over. Greg came up with a good plan to use the winch block on a tree directly behind the SUV. Tethered to my jeep Greg, winched the SUV back 20 feet before he hooked to the frame of the SUV and flipped it back upright. The rangers thanked us and we continued on down the mountain! It was another perfect rescue! Check out the trip and video below.
